British baritone George von Bergen’s charismatic stage presence and powerful, mellifluous lyric baritone has earned him renown in Europe over the last three years. His numerous successes over the last 18 months have had him hailed at ENO as “an ideal Sharpless” express, “Electrifying” as Zurga Mark Ronan, and a “mercurial” Marcello Opera Britannia, whilst his role debut as Enrico at Danish National opera gathered wide critical acclaim.

Other recent role debuts as Hamlet at Croatian National Opera Zagreb and Belcore at Opera Holland Park have garnered similar acclaim and his Ned Keene at La Scala Milan was described by Hugh Canning Sunday Times as “a Grimes ensemble that would be the envy of the world”. At Holland Park Opera it was said of von Bergen’s Ford that he owns a “complexity and dark richness to his tone [that] allows him to convey an extraordinary range of emotions”.

George is an ENO Harewood Associate Artist.
